Waste Management explores the visual and sonic potential of everyday household waste and its broader associations with environmentalism, the climate crisis and corporate greenwashing: the idea of examining one’s own carbon footprint as a solution to the climate crisis was popularised by a BP media campaign in 2005.
Four images generated from images of waste deposited into various bins (bedroom, green, brown, black) at the composer’s home in Hadfield are presented alongside two musical improvisations using samples which sonify the same rubbish as well as recordings of rainforests, factories and text-to-speech AI voices mumbling corporate buzzwords.
