Textiles is the result of experiments with converting written political messaging to audio form and associated linguistic and sonic distortions. Text from the websites of the two main political parties in both the UK and the USA were chosen for the process, thus taking purposefully clear PR campaigns and rendering them anything but. The results from these experiments have been shaped to form four tracks on this album.
The first track explores semantic association (with the help of the YouTube search algorithm) and finely slicing audio by transient, the second uses phonics and the sounds of typing the text at hand on various keypads, the third uses a free online text-to-speech generator (text2speech.org) and explores digital time-stretching and -compression, and finally the last track utilises unusual recording methods and environments in a slowly shifting soundscape.
