Hold Screen (Squeaky Clean) presents three tracks by Square Ears founder David Curington, this time reigning in the chaos of mind maps (SQE001) and THE WAY (SQE003) to make music from single extended sonic textures.
The first two tracks are the results of experiments getting various digital filters to interact unpredictably with square waves and MIDI triggers tracing out harmonic circles of fifths, whereas the final track is a surrealist juxtaposition of a gleaming stock digital synth with the sound of squeegees scraping bathroom tiles.
The album gets its name from the final track, perhaps reminiscent of lo-fi hold screen music to a video game: the escape button pressed to enable the gamer to stop to clean their bathroom.
